Harold Ford Received Abramoff Money

The rabbit hole deepens as the Ford campaign continues to back off comments made earlier this week, where the Congressman demanded that Mr. Corker (along with Bryant and Hilleary) "give to charity any and all contributions they have ever received from corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his associates" (this statement has since been pulled from the official Ford website, but remains on the 'unofficial' blog). Corker staffer Ben Mitchell immediately fired back (and rightfully so) that not only had Corker not received any "corrupt money," but that Ford himself had received money directly from Abramoff and his associates.

Nonsense, says Ford campaign spokesperson Carol Andrews. "Congressman Ford has not received any Abramoff money - period, paragraph, end of story." Oh really?

Ms. Andrews and Congressman Ford may want to reconsider their story.

According to the Washington Post and Political Money Line, Congressman Ford is much closer to Abramoff than he wants us to believe. Ford has received money from each of the following individuals that the Post clearly identifies as part of "Team Abramoff": Edward Ayoob, Alan Slomowitz, Stephanie Short and Michael D. Smith. These people lobbied on behalf of Abramoff's tribal clients and were vital parts of the machine that made up this vast conspiracy.

Attempting to play off the direct association of these people to Abramoff on the part of the Ford campaign is both misleading and dishonest. "Glass House Ford" should look to his own political coffers and consider taking his own unsolicited advice: give back the "corrupt" money you received from Abramoff.
