Today, TeamGOP baselessly attacked Bob Corker for receiving financial support from Dr. Frank Boehm, a Nashville physician. If TeamGOP wants to attack politicians who Dr. Boehm supports, they should also attack Senator Bill Frist, Senator Lamar Alexander, former Senator Fred Thompson, President George W. Bush, and former President George H.W. Bush. In other words, they should attack every successful Republican nominee for federal office in Tennessee since 1994.
By visiting Open Secrets, we found that Boehm has donated $2,000 to President Bush, $3,500 to Senator Frist, $4,000 to Senator Alexander, $1,000 to former President Bush, $2,000 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee, $1,000 to the Tennessee Republican Party, and $500 to former Senator Fred Thompson. Boehm even donated $1,750 to the congressional campaign of conservative radio talk show host Steve Gill. Dr. Boehm’s resume also lists him as a “Senator Bill Frist’s Roundtable Advisor.”
Moreover, both Bryant and Hilleary's campaigns have been supported by pro-choicers. For example, TeamGOP-endorsed candidate Ed Bryant recently campaigned with pro-choice Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito. According to Bryant’s recent newsletter, “Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia joined us in Bristol for another campaign event.” According to ontheissues.org, Capito voted “no” on President Bush's proposal to restrict funding to family planning groups that provide abortion services, counseling or advocacy.
Similarly, Open Secrets reveals that pro-choice Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn donated $2,000 to Van’s Congressional races. Like Capito, Dunn also voted “no” on President Bush's proposal to restrict funding to family planning groups that provide abortion services.
Bottom Line: TeamGOP's post is just another weak attack against Bob Corker that is based on incomplete information and half-truths. Not only have Senator Frist, Senator Alexander, and President Bush received financial support from Dr. Boehm, but Ed Bryant and Van Hilleary also have a history of receiving support from pro-choicers.

Aren't you launching the same kind of "baseless" attack as TeamGOP when you characterize U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito "pro-choice?" I thought you were going to raise the level of discourse? According to the information you linked to Capito's classified as "pro-life" by abortion rights group NARAL.
There's room in our party for both pro-life and pro-choice advocates. I think the point TeamGOP is attempting to make is that we don't know where Corker stands. Is he pro-life or pro-choice?
Corker said he was pro-choice in '94, he says he's pro-life now. I'll take Corker at his word that he's had a change of heart on the abortion issue, but having an abortion doctor host a fundraiser doesn't help his image any. As a former pro-choicer, Corker needs to be reaching out to conservative pro-life voters, instead his actions are a slap in the face.
To add to JB's comment. Voters know where Van and Ed are on the issue. The are solid. They are pro-life there is no quesion how they will vote and what they beleive in. Their records are consistent with their rhetoric.
Bob Corker on the other hand is all over the map. What is he pro-choice or pro-life? Last time he ran for Senate he was pro-choice and surprise voters rejected him. So now he is all of a sudden saying he is pro-life but he takes abortion doctor's money. Its not like a check slipped through and he didn't know. He was a host on a $1,000 fr.
What a slap in the face to pro-life republicans. He is saying that he can do whatever he wants because he will have enough money to recreate himself.
What is Bob Corker pro-life or pro-choice?
Stpo lying Bob and tell the truth.
JB and Jack,
Can you defend Bryant's pro-abortion voting in Congress?
So I guess this proves Van the only pro-lifer in the Repub primary. Afterall, we all know Bryant has voted pro-abortion in Congress. Ed Bryant backed a bill that contained $385 million for international family planning, including abortion services.
It was the '97 foreign aid bill under Clinton. Bryant voted for the "family planning"/abortion furnds but Van voted against it. I guess he is the only solidly pro-lifer in the GOP primary.
Rusty, I looked up that bill. Bryant voted YES on the amendment to remove family planning/abortion funds from the bill: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/1997/roll358.xml#Y
That vote took place in the 105th Congress. Ed and Van received 100% on their National Right to Life scorecard that year: http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/scorecard/?chamber=H&session=105&x=8&y=16#TN
JB,
GREAT DEFENSE OF EDDIE! ..."he voted against it before he voted for it..." That smaks of flip-floppin' John Kerry. Are you going to take a page for Kerry's play book for all of Ed's flip flops?
And scorecard or not, the vote is in the Congressoinal record. Looks to me like Ed and Corker finally agree on something...
The difference between Bob Corker and Goerge Bush is with Corker it's a pattern. Abortion doctor...IBEW...Phil Bredesen...Don Sudquist. Corker is beholden to liberal interest. The same cannot be said of George W. Bush. Anyone that denies that is either lying or delusional.
